Trip to PetCo...and our 2 NEW Bearded Dragons!

Excitement built up ALL of last week in preparation for our trip to the Pet Store! We decided it would be a wonderful learning opportunity to actually TAKE the children with us to pick up the new pets.

One of the goals we have at Gan, is to give the children as many "real life" opportunities as possible, preparing them for the future.

Before the trip, we spoke about how we can prepare to CARE for the new pets. One way we did this was by looking at a book that we borrowed from the city library to learn more about what Bearded Dragons need!!!

We wrote down a list of questions that we had-- to ASK the worker at the Pet Store!

(This activity is such a powerful lesson to the children that in life, its ok and GOOD to ask/search for answers! And if we don't find the answer in one place...we can look somewhere else!)

I'd like to give a big shout out to our very own PETCO here in Camarillo. The manager and staff were SO welcoming, and SO generous in donating food, supplies and other things to make our adoption of the bearded dragons so meaningful and exciting for the children.

Being introduced to the baby Bearded Dragons!

He showed us how to hold him and how to 'relax' him when he gets scared. It was good for the children to see that animals have similiar feelings to us and we can be there to help them.

"Thank you Robert!"

They were so excited to see manager Robert feed them and were eager to do it themselves! It was amazing reminder how Jackson our other bearded dragon helped them feel comfortable towards animals and want to care for them!

Back at Gan.........

The aquarium was all cleaned out and ready for a new habitat for the 2 new pets!

The children helped to empty the mulch which will serve as the floor of the new home.

The strong children found and carried inside the special log that belongs inside the aquarium!

Opening the box that helped us transport the baby bearded Dragon...

 Happy inside their new home!

Enjoying to pet one of the new baby Bearded Dragons!
