Shabbos street

Our last week of camp has arrived :(

It zoomed by way too fast!! Doesn't it feel like yesterday  that we learned our camp cheer?! We had so much fun this month learning new things and spending time with old and new friends!  Singing all our cheers was definitely a highlight! Our last stop on Mitzva Blvd was Shabbos Street. We began by reading the story book, "Yosef Mokir Shabbos" and doing a project from it. The story is about a Jewish man named Yosef who honored Shabbos with everything he had, and he didn't have a lot. He always purchased the best fish from the store! A big miracle happened to him.... Ask your kids how he got the diamond ;) it has to do with the fish they made! We learn from this story how special Shabbos is and how we are so lucky we can honor it.

Using wax string, we traced letters and shapes

We did a cool candle experiment where we poured some colored water on a plate, we lit a candle and stood it on the plate, then we covered it with a glass bottle. We learned that hypothesis means guessing in science language,  and we hypothesized what would happen when the candle was covered. some friends said it would go out (they guessed right) but another thing happened! The water rose up in the bottle! It was very fascinating to watch.

We had a fun bubble sensory bathtub! We washed babies all clean to practice how we get ready for Shabbos! All sparkly and clean :) We talked about how we love baths !

We made special salt holders for our Tatties to use for the challah to be dipped in!

Rabbi Lang lead a rally for us to teach us about the "3 weeks" on the Kewish calendar that just began.

Mr. Potato head was very popular this month!

Brachos Blvd

As we continue our trip through Mitzvah Town, we enter Brachos Blvd!

This week was a delicious one ;) We explored lots of exciting foods, and made some yummy recipes to help us remember what Bracha (blessing) to say on what food! The food activities definitely made it fun for our friends! We had lots of curious friends asking throughout the week what Brocha their snack is?

Shehakol -Blessing said on foods that do not grow in the ground. We say this on meat, chicken, fish, eggs, drinks, candies etc...

Ice cream sand making

Using our sense of taste, we played a game of having different juices in a cup.
The goal was to guess what juice was inside!

We enjoyed some free slurpees  on 7/11!!

We had lots of fun making and shaking our OWN ice cream
but it didn't end up tasting as yummy as we hoped it would!

Thank you Rabbi Yoey for leading a rally with us in honor of Yud Beis Tammuz.

Borei P'ree Ha'eits- Blessing said on all fruits that grow on a tree!

We made a yummy fruit salad together

We separated the fruits and Vegetables to where they grow from.
This was a great activity to help the children differentiate between the Bracha of "Heitz" (grow on trees) and "Ha-adama" (grow in the ground)

Mezonos - food that is made from grain, but is not bread (cookies, muffins, pastries)

We created our very own "Caring Cookie Jar" so we can focus on noticing all the good and kind acts our friends do for each other and with each other! When the cookie jar is filled we will have an exciting ice cream party!

Making our own noodle Necklaces!

Brachos baking

Mmmm we really loved the  brownies we baked together

Hamotzie- Blessing on Bread (bagels, baguettes, Challah, rolls)

Flour sensory table, we found some Hamotzie items in
the flour our friends had to dig out

Thank you to our Junior counselors, Morah Dina and Morah Elizabeth
for making a really fun obstacle course!

Aleph Beis Avenue

For the second week of camp on Mitzvah Street,  we steered our bulletin board bus into Aleph Bet Ave. We explored letters of the Alef Bet through a variety of arts, games and stories.  Because we have friends from ages 2 to 6, there was a wide range of knowing different letters and even reading! During circle we added some Aleph Beis breathing! We used our bellies as the button for the Beis and then blew it out for the Veis! We enjoyed Aleph Beis yoga as we made our bodies into different letters and marched around the room!

Beis/Veis Ball Toss
On the green foam blocks there were the letters Beis and Veis. This children were invited to look at the letter and throw it into the correct matching basket.
Aleph dotting                   Chalk tracing

We enjoyed a good game of Aleph Beis bingo!
Painting with water we made all different shapes including the Aleph Beis!

Aleph Beis pretzel making!

We made some cool abstract Aleph Beis water painting!

Aleph Beis puzzle

We had an exciting dance party this week with glow in the dark sticks! We even went under the table in the dark to see how bright they glow!

Outside play

We enjoyed a trip to Coach Pattys Gym!
