A 40 year old preschooler?

Lag B'omer with life lessons!

With the holiday of Lag B'omer coming up we learned about the famous sage, Rabbi Akiva whose passing, this day commemorates. Click here for more on this Holiday

We chose to tell the children a portion of the story of his life. How he went from not knowing much Torah as an adult, to becoming a most sought after Rabbi, in the hope they can learn from his good character, and implement his virtues in their own lives.

Akiva Puppet to tell the story:

Rabbi Akiva participated (as a student) in one of our circle times this week! He really did go to Gan and start from scratch his journey in Torah knowledge.  It was quite funny to some of the children that he was in preschool, even though we learned he was 40 years old!

Levi L. helping Akiva during davening circle!

Shua showing Akiva the Tzitzis blessing.

Once he became a Rabbi, His main message was to have AHAVAS YISRAEL- love each other unconditionally. What a beautiful message for our children!

We made an Ahavas Yisroel puzzle class project. Each time we saw an act of Ahavas Yisroel that the children did we drew/wrote it on a puzzle piece inside a large heart. When it is complete, we will enjoy a class treat!

Elizabeth, Chanie and Devorah Leah all took turns with a playdough cutter!

Levi A. gave Aron a car he was wanting to play with!

Levi Lubin gave shua an extra piece of play dough!

 Alef Beis practice

Rabbi Akiva started with the Alef Beis so this week we put a lot of emphasis on practicing our Hebrew Alphabet and a special focus on the first letter of their name.

Alef Beis tracing

Alef Beis sensory

The children had to try to copy the Hebrew letter in their shaving cream. This was a great way to practice since it was easily erased and fun at the same time!

Yehudis testing how it felt first
"my name starts with Alef!"

Alef Beis foam puzzle

Evi and Devorah Leah were excited to walk on the path they made with the Alef beis pieces and Aron decided to add a chair tunnel!

Alef Beis building and team work

During Circle time we called each child to find their first hebrew letter of their name!

Decorating their letter with splatter paint art!

Chani doing her letter Ches!

Alef beis Cookies!

Gathering and measuring our ingredients! Great math skills involved!

Using fine motor skills to precisely  take off all the extra dough around the Hebrew letter.

Learning responsibility by cleaning up after ourselves.

Ahavas Yisroel in full swing!

It was beautiful to see the teamwork and friendship this week!
Lately the children have been very into digging themselves a hole in the sand and 'burying' themselves and creating a cozy feeling.

This week the single little holes turned into one big one for all our friends!

Another lesson we can learn from Rabbi Akiva is to never give up and that is what brought him the success he experienced!

Throughout the week any time a child was having a hard time accomplishing something we always referred back to 'keep on trying' and 'don't give up'

Max and Evi working really hard to reach the top!

Feeling of accomplishment!

Yehudis watering our olive tree.

Working and communicating together!

Ending our circle time with friendship songs and dancing!

Songs:

1) Amar Rabbe Akiva x2
Vehavta leriach hakamocha
sheli shelach, shelach shelach x2
ze klal gadol batorah
Whats mine is yours i'll share with you
if you need me i'll help you
that is the basis of our torah

2)Oh lets be friends and join together
oh lets be friends now and forever
oh lets be friends and join together
oh lets be friends because that's the Torahs way!

Traveling Torah tots

 Traveling Torah Tots

It was heartwarming to see how excited the children were to come back to school and see their friends!

Plenty of hugs going around ;)!

Before the Pesach break, we left off on a high that the Jewish people were finally able to leave King Pharoh and Egypt!

Now what? where did they go?

During this time period on the Jewish Calendar, we are counting the Sefirat Haomer, the days leading up to the next holiday of Shavous - when Hashem gave us the Torah.
this was a great opportunity to talk about TRANSPORTATION!

Did they fly? did they take a train?.....

They used their feet!

Graphing different forms of transportation

Slow, fast, faster, fastest.

Required a lot of thinking.

Max helped us place his favorite type of transportation- a train!

For a cool sensory experience, the children placed their bare feet in paint and watched their foot prints go onto the papers!

We placed different size boxes for the children to paint outside. with a little imagination we turned these boxes into cars and a truck! It was a great way to help the children through open play, to talk about the different ways we can travel now!

Truck drivers ;)

Eva picked her spot and waited for a ride.

Using communication and patience while figuring out seating arrangements.

Transportation puzzles

Aron and Levi working really hard on the car puzzle that did not have a self correcting place to put the pieces.

Ink pads and trains!

Was fun watching the different tracks the wheels made from the ink-on the table.

Sibling love!

We want to welcome Yehudis Markel who joined our class this week!

Happy 3rd Birthday to Devorah Leah Muchnik!
