Which voice will you listen to? KINDERGARTEN class!

Parshat Toldot

In this weeks parsha we learned the story Yitzchak and Rivka being blessed with the birth of twin boys Yakov and Eisav. They were very different right from the start. Eisav the firstborn was very red and hairy, and Yakov was not. They also made very different choices in how they lived their life. Yakov loved learning Torah and doing Mitzvos, Eisav loved playing in the fields and hunting. Once Eisav grew up, Hashem caused Yitzchak to lose his eyesight so then he wouldn't be able to see the bad things Eisav was doing.

The Torah teaches that Yakov and Eisav reflect the 2 voices we have inside each of us. Our job us to listen to these voices, and figure out which voice is telling us what!

Which voice will you listen to?

We made Yakov and Eisav bracelets to remind us which voice to follow.

All of our friends made sure to act like Yakov .
When Morah saw a student acting like Yakov they got a sticker to add to their bracelet.

Our words are powerful!

Hashem didnt want to say Lashon Hara (bad language/gossip) about Eisav to Yitzchak so Hashem made Yitzchak become blind. This teaches us an important lesson on how we should judge people.

Morah Davina showed us this picture of two plants.
Every day the owners would speak to them, one nicely and one not nicely.

There is such a big difference between them!

We learnt how Yitzchak dug wells and the children got so excited they decided to dig a well of their own !

Alef Bais Capit

This week we began putting the sounds of the letters together to actually READ WORDS!

Each sound or letter is a building block of reading. So we can already sound out a couple words!

Interactive Learning!

This sweet video showcases learning a new letter.
The combination of song, visual, reading and writing, make each new letter exciting for all our different types of learners.

Playing games help the new sound really be processed and sink in.

We also started to focus on hebrew names this week.
Yisroel practices the letters of his name on the whiteboard.

At the end of the day, we went around and each said our favorite thing we learned that day.
Elizabeth said, " I love learning to read!"

Scientists at Work

This week we learned about Producers and Consumers.
Plants are called producers. This is because they produce their own food! They do this by using light energy from the sun, and water from the soil to produce food. Animals are called consumers. This is because they cannot make their own food. So they need to consume (eat) plants or animals.

We experimented on some producers in our classroom!

We filled up three vases with water and added a different food coloring to each one.

We then hypothesized what would happen to the flowers in each of the different vases of water.
Then we waited ...
Lo and Behold, the flowers started changing colors!
It was using the water and changing colors!

Fish for our classroom

Morah Davina surprised us with five little fish. Our kinder are so excited to learn how to take care of the fish! Through feeding the fish the children experienced consumers.

Thank you Morah Davina!

Let us know if you would like to contribute by buying food or filters.

Math Mastery

Elizabeth and Levi Yitzchak put the right amount of buttons on the shirt.

We all worked together to make a smiley face,
then we counted how many buttons were in it.
42!

Number Bingo assists in number recognition.
Max had three 11s!"

Muka and Elizabeth show us the different ways to make 4

Which voice will you listen to?

Life lesson from this weeks Torah portion "Toldos."

Yitzchak and Rivkah (the second of the patriarchs/matriarch's) gave birth to twins, Yakov & Esav. Yakov was righteous and is responsible for the 12 tribes which we all come from. Esav, his brother made many not good choices throughout his life.

The Torah teaches us that each of them represents a different "voice" found inside every person.

Our big idea was to help the children tune in to the different "voices", and realize that there is a constant battle we all face daily.

We have a choice to either listen to the 'Yakov voice' that tells us to do good or the 'Esav voice' that tells us to do the wrong thing.  Throughout the week we made this practical and watched them identify within themselves what are the different 'voices'.

Moshe and Faiga role playing with our Yakov and Esav puppets a common scenario that happens in the block area.

Shayna and Ari helped us understand what twins are.
Saige asked, "Are Evan and I twins since we're in the same class?

After telling us how old each of them are, the children came up with their own conclusion that they are brother and sister but not twins;)

We are like Yakov

It was so special to watch the children identify with Yakov and realize how many sweet things they do for one another.
During davening the children started dancing with our Yakov puppet.

Inside their "Yakov and Esav projects" they each drew a picture of how they are like Yakov and what Mitzvah they like to do.

Mendel, "I like to share my room with a guest."

Reflecting on different scenarios

We reflected on many scenarios that take place daily, and discussed what would be the best way to handle it!  Evan was riding on a bike that Saige really wanted. Faiga acted out 'Esav's voice' "No you can't have a turn!"

Hannah acted out 'Yakov's voice' "Right when I'm done I'll give you a turn!"
Evan knew just what 'voice' to listen to and told Saige! We really observed a huge difference this week with the children recognizing what voice to listen to!

Yakov Chart

A Yakov chart helped us document all the moments when a child made the right choice.
Faiga gave up the bike that Saige really wanted, and was thrilled to place her Yakov sticker on the chart!

Bela Riva using sweet words to Hannah and Mendel.

Dovi noticed Menachem wanted water and asked Morah Rachel for water for his friend.

Creative building

We placed cartons and recycled CD's on the floor and watched the children put their imagination to work.

Contact paper was a fun way to make a picture since they can move the pieces around and create different scenes.

Working on fine motor skills by placing an assortments of small objects on the white line.

Parshat Chayei Sarah: How to Be a Good Citizen

How to Be a Good Citizen

This week we continued the story of the first Jew: Avraham.
Avraham decided that it was time for his son Yitzchak to get married. So he sent his servant Eliezer to his hometown to look for a wife there. The journey was supposed to take 17 days, but Hashem made a miracle and it took only 3 hours. Eliezer brought gifts of camels and jewelry for the girl that he would find.

We imitated Eliezer's journey in the sand with our fingers.

Eliezer had to take care of many camels. Do you know how much water a camel drinks?
30 Gallons!!

Water Play helps the children understand the quantity of water needed to feed the camels. Yisroel filled/emptied and refilled the water bottle MANY times, to transfer the water from one trough to another!

Making bracelets and necklaces like Eliezer gave to Rivka

When Eliezer arrived to Charan he was standing by the well. Eliezer wasn't sure how to find the right girl, so he Davened to Hashem to give him a sign show him the right one! Suddenly he saw Rivka coming to the well, Eliezer went up to her and asked for water Rivka gave Eliezer water and offered his 10 camels to drink. Eliezer understood that this is a sign from Hashem that Rivka is the right girl.

This was a sign that she was the right person!

We practiced offering our friends water too.
 Rivka offering Eliezer water

Eliezer went to Rivka's father Besuel and brother Lavan and asked if he could bring Rivka back to be Yitzchaks wife.
They were not such nice people, but they saw Eliezer was wealthy and eventually they let Rivka go. Hashem made the miracle again and the trip was shortened. The moment that Rivka entered Sarah's tent  all the miracles that had stopped when she passed away started again! The Shechina (Hashems cloud of glory) came to rest on the tent, the shabbat candles stayed lit all week, and the challah she made was always enough for everyone.

Menucha proudly displays the 3 miracles

Hebrew Reading

This week we started our new Capit Hebrew Reading program. Each day we learn a new letter and its sound. Each night we practice it by doing homework.
We get a little toy or prize to help us remember the sound!

Ah  like the sound we make at the Doctor (using a tongue depressor)

Uh like when we say "Umbrella "

We had so much fun with our mini umbrellas!

Aleph makes no sound  א
We used band-aids to form the letter shape,
and to seal our mouth so no sounds would come out!

How to be a Good Citizen

We had to work together and cooperate to build a circle in only two minutes

Our Aleph Bais Helper does his job well!

Being responsible means listening to the Morah and following directions.

Morah Avigail read us a book  that really made us think!

Image result for what if everybody did that book

Mathematicians at Work

Freeze Dance!
When the music stops point to the number Morah Avigail says!

Yisroel worked hard counting out each block, to measure each objects length, and then remarked,
"There are so many orange blocks!"

Working hard to figure out which combination of numbers can make 8?

ABC's are Such a Breeze

We are moving on to sounding out words!
Check out this cool game we played!

CapIt is definitely helping with that!

We brought in so many things that start with "B"
Thank you Mommies and Daddies for helping with that!
One of the afternoons we creating a story from our imagination. We went around and each child picked a toy from the ''B'' pile and incorporated it into the story.

A game that uses your whole body! Yisroel found the match

Veterans Day-

Soldiers are important! They protect our country.
We remember all the soldiers that fought hard to protect us and this country.
We wrote thank you notes to give to local Veterans!
