This weeks Torah portion is Vayishlach. Yakov heard that Esav was coming and he was worried that Esav would try to hurt him. Yakov davened to Hashem, sent gifts to Esav and divided his camp into two. He tried a few different solutions to his problem.
After he split his camp, he forgot some Jars and he went back across the river to get them.
We created a magnetic river maze for Yakov to go across.
When Yakov crossed the river, The malach (angel) that protected Esav started to fight with him, and they fought the entire night. When morning came the malach wanted to leave, but Yakov didn't let him go until the malach promised that hew would be successful over Esav, the malach gave yakov a new name- Yisroel. All Jewish people are also called by this name.
Rochel, Yakovs wife passed away in this weeks parsha, she is buried on the side of the road, after giving birth to Binyamin.
Creating a Kever Rochel (her burial place) out of different shapes.
We also followed a directed drawing of how to draw a tree.
Our classroom started getting ready for Chanukah this week!
Creating our bulletin board was a lot of fun!
Swirling and twirling the dreidels to make the design!
Making a beautiful golden menorah! Chanukah Art!
Tracing the map of Eretz Yisroel through wax paper to see where the Beis Hamikdash was.
Shmuel shows us what the Kohen wears in the Beis Hamikdash - Hashem's home.
Antiochus would not let the Jewish people come to the Bais Hamikdash, and sent his soldiers to trash it!
Antiochus did not want the jewish people to learn Torah because Hashem wanted it. He wanted the Greek way of life to be the most important! Matisyahu led the Maccabees to fight against the big Greek Army. The Maccabees used Guerilla warfare, they would do surprise sneak attacks and run away.
The Jewish people would learn Torah in caves, and when the greek soldiers would come, they would play dreidel!
Hashem made a miracle and the Jewish people won! They quickly ran to fix the beis hamikdash that the soldiers had trashed. They wanted to light the Menorah, but they couldn't find pure oil.
Finally they found for one day, but it lasted for 8!
We have been filling up our tzedaka box in school! We counted all the money and we will use it to buy something new our school needs. We voted for new shovels!
In Hebrew Capit we are making progress with our kindergarteners! One of the new sounds we learned this week was the "vov" it makes "v" like a violin stick ( we know it's really a ukulele but Morah Davina didn't have a violin :)
Happy Birthday Morah Rachel! We love you!
Thank you for helping us learn and grow everyday!
