Buzzy SWEET bees!

Rosh Hashanah Unit

This week we have been singing and wishing each other "Have a happy sweet new year! "which is customarily said before the Jewish New Year. As well as singing 'Dip the apple in the honey' which we are looking forward to doing on the holiday.

What does that mean to a two and three year old ?
We started off by exploring where honey comes from!

Our friends became the bees and learned about making nectar into honey that they make in the beehive.

Eli using clustered pasta to create a beehive look and Yossi tried the bubble wrap technique all while we talked about how hard the bees work to create the bee hive.

Leah the bee wanted to get a full sensory experience of the 'honey'.

Then we invited our friends to taste the difference between SWEET and SOUR foods.
Mendy showed us a sour face while tasting a lemon.

Axel loved the sweet honey!

Morah Aurora, brought in honey with a real honey comb for us to taste.

After our taste buds taught us what SWEET is, it was now time to bring out the
 big idea for Rosh Hashanah:

"What is SWEET for Hashem?"

A lot of our friends knew the answer; "Our Mitzvahs (our good deeds)"
When we wish each other a sweet  new year, we want a year filled with many SWEET MITZVAH'S!

Yossi and Mendy being sweet and washing the paint dishes for our classroom .
Nechama, showing us her project that is filled with her sweet mitzvah notes and a bee that can help read them ;)

Apple exploration
Our apple tree sensory bin was a hit this week! Learning our colors with our different apple trees and team work by sharing the fun items in it.

Mendy, proud he made an apple out of playdough just like the real red apple he saw.
Mordy, using sticks from outside to make his stem.

Nechama painting her apples.

Enjoy a clip of Mordy helping Rabbi Lang blow the shofar!

This week we celebrated a Chassidic Holiday on the 18th of the Hebrew month of Elul.
The first Chabad Rebbe, the Alter Rebbe who wrote the Tanya (the deeper treasures of the Torah) His birthday is celebrated all over the world.

We placed a tape on his book of the Tanya and tasted some honey bringing home the message that Torah is sweet!
