Home sweet home!

We like to begin our Chanukah unit by giving the children a foundation of understanding what the Beis Hamikdash (Holy Temple) is. How can a preschooler understand what the Beis Hamikdash is?

We begin with something they can relate to, and connect with!

Their HOME!

What does your home look like?

We began with inviting the children to describe the things they love about their home. Giving each child a photo of their own home, they were able to visualize and understand what a home is, and how important it is to them!

Building on the children's innate love for their own home and understanding of what a "home" is, the children were now ready to learn more about Hashem's home!

The Beis Hamikdash!

The holy temple that stood in Yerushalayim, 2,000 years ago was a beautiful place that Jewish people would come to pray and connect with Hashem.

With the children's help painting golden walls, we began putting together a Beis Hamikdash Center that will be the focus of our week next week, and play a hands on part in learning the Chanuka story!

Leah painted a beautiful and detailed Beis Hamikdash.

Even though we do not have a Beis Hamikdash now (we can't wait until Moshiach comes when we will see it in real life), we can make our own homes into a "mini Beis Hamikdash."

When we have a Mezuza on our door, a tzedaka box in the house, when we daven (pray), we turn our own home, into a home that's comfortable for Hashem!

Yossi painted a Sukkah, which is something he loves about his home!

We love catching our friends being kind, making room for each other!
