This weeks Torah portion talks about the story of Avraham, who loved having guests.
What better way to learn the lesson, than to actually DO IT!
Squeezing fresh lemons to create home-made lemonade- to serve to our guests!
During circle time the children watched a puppet show telling the story of Avraham. He had a tent with four doors, to welcome lots of guests.

The Angel told Sarah the news
that she would have a baby!

As a group, we thought about HOW WE can be like Avraham, and ALSO perform this mitzvah of "Hachnasat Orchim" "Welcoming Guests."
Our idea was to invite Morah Shira & Morah Lisa's class over to be our guests! We would make fresh lemonade to serve.

Using our motor skills to practice control in pouring the lemon juice. |
We spoke about what we could do to be good hosts, and make our guests feel comfortable.
Mendel said, " we should serve our guests first!"
Rochel said "I always give up my bed for guests"- so we gave up our chairs so the other class could sit comfortably.

Tickling our taste buds with the freshly cut lemons! |
Pillow Cases!
For the lesson to extend beyond the classroom walls, we try to send home a "tool" to empower the children- to be able to "live" the lessons being learned.
We used fabric and paint to create pillow cases to offer special guests- to make guests feel more comfortable!
We began by painting two sheets of fabric.

Once the fabric had dried I punched holes along two sides of the fabric. (since this was most likely the first time any of the children had an opportunity to sew, I didn't want to make it too overwhelming for them!)
Using plastic needles and yarn as thread, the children mastered the art of sewing- to attach the sides of the pillow case!
After attaching one side...the children stuffed the pillows to make them soft and comfy!
They were so excited to take the finished product home...and use it for a Mitzvah!
