Police officer and Safety unit
This week we continued our unit on safety. We focused on our special Police officers who help keep us safe.
Police station
The children enjoyed role playing calling 911 and being the dispatchers helping people in an emergency.

Different 911 activities help the children retain the information.
Now that the children knew all about calling 911 in case of an emergency (we emphasized never dial it for fun!)
We wanted to make it more practical for them!
These days with most people using cellphones and having passwords it is important for your child to know the special emergency call button.

What do police officers do?
We first wanted to hear their prior knowledge of what police officers do. They sure knew a lot! (some shared stories of their parents speeding ticket ;)
Different photos help the children see all the important services that they do for our community.
I'm lost!
Getting lost can be a scary situation. We learned what to do in case this should ever happen.
First, shout out for the adult who is with you. If that doesn't work and you see a worker or another parent with children you can tell them you are lost and give them your parents cell phone number to help you find them.
Role playing a lot of different scenarios helped them really understand.
Menucha found Motty who was crying for his mommy, she quickly took out her phone and called the number motty had said.
Each child made a phone with their parents cellphone number on it to practice it and ideally memorize it!
Stranger danger
It is so important to teach your child to never talk to a stranger. Strangers can look nice and even have a treat with them but we should always run away and go straight to our parent!

Police officers come to visit!
We would like to say thank you to the Port Hueneme police officers for visiting us and telling us very important information.
Some of them had great questions to ask.

Torah portion, Vayechi
This week we learned about Yakov blessing his grandchildren before he passed away. This blessing 'Hamalach hagoel' is recited by is us and found in the siddur to this day. That all the children shall be protected by an angel and that we shall become so many!
Yosef, his son thought his father Yakov should place his right dominant hand on the oldest grandson, Menasha. However, Yakov switched his hands. He placed his right hand on the younger grandson, Afraim. He foresaw a special man named Yehoshua that will come from him.
Saying Thank you
Our class made a gift to the fireman who came last week. Malka helped paint a canvas with pictures. Thank you Morah Rachel and Elizabeth for delivering it for us!
