Discovering our world - Day 7 - Shabbat!

After 6 days of work, creating the world, Hashem chose to rest on day number 7!

This week we enjoyed all sorts of Shabbat themed activities! We read a book that described how we can prepare for Shabbos each and every day of the week!

Shabbat Themed Art

We chose to use a sunset scene, as the inspiration for this week's art project! Being that Shabbat begins and ends when the sun goes down, we thought it was a great way for the children to recognize this beautiful and magical time of day.

Soup for Shabbat!

The children worked hard using peelers and plastic knives, preparing vegetables for a yummy soup!

Setting the table for Shabbat.

The children were invited to use a placemat with outline of where all the place settings belong, to assist them in setting the table for Shabbat!

Number recognition 1-7

Using egg cartons and numbered ping pong balls, the children were invited to match the numeral to the number of dots in the egg carton!

Challah Baking & Shabbat Party

Every Friday the children enjoy making Challah, and celebrating a Shabbat party together!

Gross Motor Skills-- Shabbat obstacle course!

Following 3 and 4 step directions is a skill we like to work on for our preschoolers. Using the Shabbat theme, the children were instructed to do a series of steps:

1.  "clean the floor for shabbat"- crawling accross the gym mat/doing a scrubbing motion on the floor.

2. Make matzaballs, by throwing the "matzah ball" into the "pot" (tire)

3. "set the table" for shabbat.

4. Skip/hop / run to shule
