Germs can be ick, they can make me sick!

Welcome back 'Show and Tell"

It was so great to see our friends back at school after winter break! Each child was invited to bring a picture of something they did over break and explain it to their friends. This was a great opportunity for the children to practice speaking with confidence, answering their friends questions, and of course being a good listener!

Spending some quality time and 'catching up' in the library.

Germs

This time a year is usually when we see sniffles and coughs. We will be focusing on  'Healthy Habits' and reminding the children how to stay away from bad germs.

During circle time we demonstrated how germs spread.
We sprinkled some 'germs' (crushed up chalk) on Saige's and Mendels hand. We sang a friend song and as they held hands they noticed how the little germs transferred to their friends hand!

Germ growth experiment

To see the affects of real germs we took two pieces of bread. One was placed in a bag with a glove on. The other one was passed around from person to person rubbing their hands all over it. We will be monitoring the two pieces of bread to watch the difference.

Learning good hand-washing habits by the sink. Rozie making sure she gets between her fingers.
Menachem helping out Batya to rinse off the soap.

Germ Art

Microscopic pictures of real germs invited the children to draw their own version of what a germ looks like.

Blow art was a fun way to create germ photos.
Saige noticing the beautiful blended colors that she was creating.

Multi age scissor observation

Its amazing to see the different levels of skills in our classroom and watch them challenge themselves and grow.
Here's an example with just putting out scissors and paper:

Mina (age 2) cutting little snippets all around her paper.

Faiga (age 3) cutting around different shapes on her paper.

Bela Riva (age 4.5 ) cutting out small detail numbers.

Mendel and Hannah enjoying a basketball game together.

We want to welcome and wish Happy birthday to a new friend in our class, Batya Johnson!
