Parshat Shemot: What's the Matter?
The Jewish people had many children and their families grew while they were in Mitzrayim (Egypt).
Threatened by their growing numbers, Pharoh enslaves them and ordered the Hebrew midwives Shifra and Puah, to kill all male babies at birth. When they did not comply, he commands his people to cast the Hebrew babies into the Nile.
We used Puppets and little people to tell the story of "Mitzvrayim and the Nile River."
A child is born to Yocheved. The child is placed in a basket on the river while the baby's sister Miriam stands watch from afar. Paroh's daughter discovers the baby boy and raises him as her son, and names him Moshe. Moshe refused to drink from an Egyptian wet nurse because "It was a not Jewish Mommy and the milk from her was not good" - Menucha
Thanks to Moshe's big sister Miriam- and to Shifra and Pua- the Jewish Midwives- Moshe was able to be nursed by his real mother and not the Egyptian midwives!
Spreading the Light
One of the things we focused on this week was how to spread the light of our Neshama. We lit a candle to demonstrate that the flame is like our neshama (soul). Each time we do a good deed the light is spread and shines. The flame gets stronger and closer to Hashem. When we do by mistake a not good deed its like taking a block and stopping the light from spreading and connecting to Hashem.
Science: What's the Matter
This week we learned about different types of Matter; solids, liquids and gases.
Liquid Rainbow
Menucha looks on excitedly as we use different liquids to create a Rainbow!
We can turn a liquid into a solid by freezing it!
We made popsicles!
Our favorite experiment was blowing up a balloon using gas!
Everyone was laughing and giggling as we watched the balloon blow up!
Hebrew Capit
Thank you Parents for making sure your child practiced their reading over Winter Break!
This week we learned some new sounds and practiced our old ones.
Morah Avigail: "We made this as a tennis racket
because I couldn"t find any at the store."
Muka: "That's creative!"
Morning Manipulatives
Menucha used shapes to spell out her name!
Playdough is great for finetuning our fine motor skills.
Muka concentrates intently on writing "I love you" with paint
Combining our lessons with fun!
We began focusing on Maps and how to use them this week.
The students got the opportunity to look up their houses on the Ipads
and paint them
Caught being Cute!
Menucha reads the story to the rest of her friends because
"she has it at home"
"Yisroel and Max hard at work on their handwriting"
