Shopping at Gan!

The Grocery Store

The children were so excited to see the new shopping center this week. It was fun to watch the children recognize the food items that came from their home!
So many valuable lessons were learned.

Rozie learning about the concept of payment.
Motty returning change to Dovi.

Muka finding the bar code to scan her customer's food item.
Menucha making sure the cereal has a Kosher sign
.

Waiting patiently on line.

That moment where you wished you took a wagon instead of a basket. :)

Learning organization skills while unloading their groceries.

During snack time the children were invited to take turns drawing what they would buy in a real grocery store.

'Home made' puzzles were created from some of the extra food cartons we had.

Enjoying the warm sun with friends.

Weekly Challah dough : a great sensory and team working experience.

It was such a sweet moment when Devorah Leah, Malka and Menucha wanted to make a get well card for a friend who has been out of school sick.

Happy 4th birthday to Motty! We love you!

Doctor's office in our classroom!

Community Helpers Unit continues...

Doctors and our body parts

Doctor's office in our classroom!

This was a fun center to learn and appreciate what Doctors do.
It was a very busy office this week!

One morning Max was the receptionist, answering phone calls.
Levi Yitzchak patiently waiting with his baby till his name was called. We over heard Elizabeth who was playing the doctor asking Levi Yitzchak, "Please tell me how I can help your baby?"

  Dr Ava on call :)

Morah Rachel role playing how to be brave during a Doctor  visit!

"Ouch ABC's"

The children were invited to find the matching ABC band aid to the correct letter which had a 'boo boo' next to it!
This was a great fine motor activity as well as letter recognition.

 Learning about x-rays

Before we invited the children to start the x-ray art, we spoke about bones.
Can you feel them in your body?
The children then traced their hand and arm. It was fascinating watching the children figuring out if they should use their dominant hand as the tracer or not.

 The q-tips were the 'bones'.

Body parts

During snack we played a fun body part game. We named different body parts, some more difficult than others. The child that knew where it was got to place a sticky note on Morah Shira's body. This was a great visual and a fun way for them to remember new names for body parts.

Tracing our bodies was a fun way for the children to draw the body parts on their own bodies.
Morah Rachel pointing out all types of body parts Hashem gave us.

Dovi being traced and then adding what is inside his body. Here he is drawing his collar bone!

 Devorah Leah drawing her bones.

Where does the body part go?

 Creating our bodies with blocks!

This was a great team building activity!

Menachem making a person out of his play dough

Thank you to the paramedics of Camarillo, for visiting us this week! We learned all about keeping our body healthy and got to see their ambulance!

Fire drill

This week we did a full campus fire drill. In the days leading up we learned all about what we should do in case of an emergency. This included not being scared of the loud noise, walking feet and where our 'safe spot' is outside of the school site.

Parshas Shemos

(Weekly Torah Portion)

We learned about baby Moshe in the river and how princess Batya with Hashem's help rescued him.

Alef Beis enrichment with Morah Michaela

Motty finding the Alef in the rice table.

The Ball in the Beis.

Getting comfortable with our pet Bearded dragons.

When your child SHOULD use your cell phone!

Police officer and Safety unit

This week we continued our unit on safety. We focused on our special Police officers who help keep us safe.

 Police station

The children enjoyed role playing calling 911 and being the dispatchers helping people in an emergency.

Practicing writing down the address and information they get on the phone.

We enlarged a dial pad for the children to practice 911

Different 911 activities help the children retain the information.

Now that the children knew all about calling 911 in case of an emergency (we emphasized never dial it for fun!)

We wanted to make it more practical for them!
These days with most people using cellphones and having passwords it is important for your child to know the special emergency call button.

Elizabeth and Muka learning how to swipe the screen to go on and finding the emergency button in case they can't get to the dial pad.

What do police officers do?

We first wanted to hear their prior knowledge of what police officers do. They sure knew a lot! (some shared stories of their parents speeding ticket ;)
Different photos help the children see all the important services that they do for our community.

 I'm lost!

Getting lost can be a scary situation. We learned what to do in case this should ever happen.
First, shout out for the adult who is with you. If that doesn't work and you see a worker or another parent with children you can tell them you are lost and give them your parents cell phone number to help you find them.

Role playing a lot of different scenarios helped them really understand.
Menucha found Motty who was crying for his mommy, she quickly took out her phone and called the number motty had said.

Each child made a phone with their parents cellphone number on it to practice it and ideally memorize it!

 Stranger danger

It is so important to teach your child to never talk to a stranger. Strangers can look nice and even have a treat with them but we should always run away and go straight to our parent!

Levi Yitzchak aka "Jonathan" offering Menucha a candy if she went with him.

Police officers come to visit!

We would like to say thank you to the Port Hueneme police officers for visiting us and telling us very important information.
Some of them had great questions to ask.

Dovi "If your speeding when it is not an emergency can we call the policeman?" :)

 Getting to see their equipment.

Watching the lights and sirens as they drove away!

Torah portion, Vayechi

This week we learned about Yakov blessing his grandchildren before he passed away. This blessing 'Hamalach hagoel' is recited by is us and found in the siddur to this day. That all the children shall be protected  by an angel and that we shall become so many!

Yosef, his son thought his father Yakov should place his right dominant hand on the oldest grandson, Menasha. However, Yakov switched his hands. He placed his right hand on the younger grandson, Afraim. He foresaw a special man named Yehoshua that will come from him.

Saying Thank you

Our class made a gift to the fireman who came last week. Malka helped paint a canvas with pictures. Thank you Morah Rachel and Elizabeth for delivering it for us!

Saying a quick hello the rain!
