Hiding in Caves??

Imagine what it must have been like many years ago, during the time of the Beis Hamikdash- when the Story of Chanukah took place? The Jewish Children had to hide in caves in order to learn Torah and do Mitzvot!

We had a chance to experience that in our classroom this week, as we began to learn the story of Chanukah! The children felt chills, as they anticipated the Yevanim (King Antiyochus Soldier--Morah Lisa) marching into our classroom. We had our dreidles prepared and pulled them out just in time!

 Hiding in Boxes...make believe Caves!

A puppet show brought the Chanuka Story to life, as we watched the mean King Antoyichus make decrees forbidding Jews from learning Torah and doing Mitzvot.

Learning about the Beis Hamikdash prior to this story really helped the children appreciate and cherish the Mitzvos we were given. During the Puppet show, when the King decreed that we can no longer keep Shabbos, make a bris mila or go to the Beis Hamikdash, the children all together responded with determination!

Noach said, "We can't listen to the king!"

Mendel said, "I'll never listen to the king!"

Rochel said, "Soldiers, Don't ever break the Beis hamikdash!"

When Matisyahu Kohen Gadol asked all the children, "Who wants to be a Macabee?" all the children shouted, "ME"

Retelling the story!

The children admiring their artwork. Each child decorated a candle for the Menorah on our bulletin and are so proud of their combined artwork- that makes up our classroom bulletin board!

Enjoying our chanukah display table; including toys, candles, dreidels and books to bring the excitement of chanukah to our classroom!
