Which voice will you listen to?

Its Parsha Time!
This week we learned about the story of the birth of the twins Yakov (Jacob) and Esav (Esau).

The puppet shows bring the stories to life!

Rivka (who got married in last weeks Torah portion!) felt lots of kicking in her tummy! It turns out she had TWINS!! Yakov was born, holding onto Esav's Heel!

Yakov & Esav are as different as could be! Yakov loves to learn Torah, while Esav loves to fight!

As with everything in the Torah, we are supposed to take the stories and use them as a lesson for how to live our lives. This story gives a very powerful lesson, not just for children- but all of us! It reminds us that Hashem made each of us with 2 different voices inside us!

One of those voices is a "Yakov voice"...that tells us to listen to our Mommy/Daddy, to do mitzvah's, to share and be kind to our friends.

The other voice is our "Esav voice"... that tells us to NOT listen to our Mommy/Daddy, to be mean and maybe not even care if we say something that would hurt other people's feelings.

To help the children be aware of these "voices" - we had a fun time giving out special "Yakov Cards" this week. Thank you Morah Shira for making them for us! Whenever any of the children were caught being good, using their "Yakov Voice" - they were awarded with a card!

For eg. One of the children didn't want to sit in a certain spot on the rug, but he listened to his Yakov voice- and stayed in that spot even though he really didnt want to! He received a Yakov card for that!

One day Yakov made a bean soup for his father. While he was making the soup, his brother Esav stormed into the tent and yelled, "GIVE ME SOME SOUP" (not very nice manners or patience.) Yakov said he would feed him the soup, in exchange for his "Bchor" (First born rights.)

We loved re-enacting the story ourselves!

We helped the Torah Tots prepare a veggie soup....

Getting good practice to be big helpers in the kitchen at home!
