In any spot, in any chair, I'll be happy anywhere!! Stones fighting where they will sit??

We are always looking for practical lessons from the Torah stories we tell the children. This weeks Torah portion came alive in our classroom with the story of Yakov's dream-- it also gave us a lesson that fit right into the "current affairs" of our classroom!!

Yakov lay down to take a rest and placed 12 stones around his head to protect himself. All of the stones started fighting! Each one wanted to sit in the spot that was right under Yakov's head!

"I want to!" cried one, "No ME" yelled another, "i want to sit there" argued the other one! They all kept fighting about which spot would be theirs.

Sometimes in our classroom, some children can't make up their minds about which chair they will sit in...and might argue JUST LIKE THE ROCKS!!!

We started a new chant, "In any spot, in any chair, I'll be happy anywhere!"

We role-played the story using puppets and props! We built a ladder really high, and tried to make it reach the sky! Almost ;)

We learned that the spot where Yakov lay down and had the dream is the very same spot that Hashem later built the Beis Hamikdash (Holy Temple). We began building our own Beis Hamikdash together with the Torah Tots!

We spoke about the kotel- the last remaining wall of the beis hamikdosh in jerusalem.

We looked at many pictures of the Beit Hamikdash, and tried to imagine what it was like in those days! Learning about the Beit Hamikdash will make the story of Chanukah more meaningful when we begin to learn it next week!

The children are developing an appreciation for the incredible life that once existed 2,000 years ago, with the existance of the Beit Hamikdash (Holy Temple)

Lots of fine motor skill controlling the glue and placing the bricks on the page!

We created our own mini Kotels, to make it more tangible and realistic to us!

We worked on our own Kohen Godol (High Priest) costumes. They feel so real, and are enhancing our "Beis Hamikdash" Center!! The bells on the bottom even jingle when we walk, just like in the times of the Beis Hamikdash!

Rochel said, "I'm building a Beis Hamikdash!"

We are excited to begin the Chanukah Story next week!!
