Art: Representational Drawings!

This week we spoke a lot about the members of our family, and the different roles.

Each child really enjoyed holding onto their "family picture collage!" We used the picture collage as a springboard for reflection and as a tool for art- to create "Representational Drawings."

Looking at his/her family collage, and drawing each member of the family.

The children took the time to ensure they had included every member of the family!

 Drawings offer many learning opportunities.

To name a few...

Engage in social interaction... as the child shows others their creations...

Language Development...  using words to describe what was drawn...

Understanding of self & self expression...  children will often draw something and explain what it is... an idea or concept the teacher or friend may not have known about the child previously. Children also draw their interpretation of the world around them...

Opportunity to reflect ... and appreciate what is theirs, what they have and what is around them...

So many details...Tutty is holding Zev, there's the baby inside Mommy's tummy. That's me, with a bow in my hair...

We did a similar activity- however, developing it a step further, using different mediums for the children to create art of their homes.

Each child was given a color picture of their home, and used it to create their own masterpiece of their home!

BL noticed the street numbers mounted on the front of her home. She requested some number stickers to represent her house number! On her own, she was able to peel off the correct "5 0 4 7 " and place it in the correct spot on her artwork.
