What our words can do!

Rosh Hashanah:

We delved right into the Rosh Hashana unit- through stories, montessori activity trays and more- the children are discovering that their words mean a lot, and acquiring many pre-kindergarten skills while learning the traditions of Rosh Hashanah.

We always begin our units with establishing what the children already know, so we can build on their existing knowledge, expanding on it. It helps us discern what we need to review from previous years and what new concepts  we can introduce.

Here's what the children already knew:

Graphing, sorting and tasting different flavored honeys!

Different flavor honeys are because the bees pollinate in different types of flowers!

Story of the Feathers and a crumbled heart to teach lesson:

To teach the children how powerful our words are, we demonstrated using heart cutout of clean paper!
After the friend in the story said something not nice, the heart saddened and CRUMBLED UP.

The children were able to see that even after doing Teshuva (saying sorry) the crumbled heart could not quite get PERFECTLY flat again. It was a powerful lesson for them. We supported this idea with a story about throwing a bunch of feathers..... it is almost impossible to gather them all back again!

Tracing a Shofar: Bumpy and twisty!

Learning the stages of a Bee making Honey:
