Home sweet home

Chanuka Unit 1

One of our favorite times of the year, is Chanuka! The lessons that the children learn during this holiday lasts a lifetime. Before starting where it all began, in the Beis Hamikdash (Hashem's home) we talked about our own home which has a special place in a young child's heart.

Our friends were quite surprised to find pictures of their own homes on our art table one morning. Menachem expressing all the people he loves so dearly by drawing them on his house.

Driving to our friends homes.

Our homes even made it to the sensory table! Inviting the children to many different areas in the classroom centers where their homes were was a great way to encourage expressing what our home means to us. Ben showing us the big doors he has.

Creating our own version of our home using magnet tiles and a big mirror to see all angles.

Hashem's Home!

Now, it was time to introduce a special home called the Beis Hamikdash. Hashem is everywhere but He wanted a special temple where all the Jewish people could gather and witness Hashem's glory.
We set up a Beis Hamikdash center for the children to get a taste what is was like for the Jews before the Chanuka story and also what it will, G-d willing, be like when Moshiach comes!

This center helped the children learn all about the special jobs the Kohanim (priests) performed in the Beis Hamikdash. Menachem learing how to wash his hands at the Kiyor (wash basin) before lighting the Menorah.

Everyday, the Kohanim would light the gold Menorah using olive oil.

Ben tasting from the Lechem Hapanim (show bread) that stayed yummy and fresh for the Kohanim.

Working together and bringing the Aron which had the two sets of tablets from Har sinai in it.

"Bikkurim" was a special mitzvah the Jewish people visiting the Beis Hamikdash performed. They would bring their first fruits from their orchards and gift it to the Kohanim!

Chana showing us a picture of the Leviim who would use instruments in the Beis Hamikdash to enhance the experience of davening to Hashem. Chana's father is from the Levi tribe and will be part of this group when Moshiach comes!

Menachem, noticed cymbals in the picture and took two golden plates we had in the center and made his own!

Dancing for Moshiach!

What will bring the third Beis Hamikdash? When we all get along!
Each time  we found friends playing together we connected it to the building of the Beis Hamikdash.
