A colorful week! Eating a rainbow!

This week we focused on colors! For some of the older ones this was a great review and a chance to model and help out the younger ones in their color recognition.
Bela Riva had fun sorting the blocks into the different colored bags.

Color hunt

We paired up the children into different color teams as they were invited to find their color items from around our classroom. This was a great team work activity that required patience and communication.

Menachem showing the class his red items he found. Motty proud of the orange horse he found!

Evan representing his team blue.

Dovi taking it to the next level showing us the different colors he found on a book. The question was what color team did it belong to?

The children were invited to mix two different paint colors in a shaving cream bag to see what would happen! Mina mixing blue and red and Saige was excited to find orange appearing from her red and yellow paint!

Science and colors

What happens when you sprinkle salt on ice balls? By painting water colors on it the children were  able to see  the colors flow down the little 'valleys' that the salt created.

Mitzvah colors!

Our class worked hard all week creating their 'Mitzvah color book'. Each color represented a different mitzvah. Shayna drawing a friendship heart picture on her red page. Dovi creating his challah on the brown page.

Eating a rainbow!

At the end of our colorful week we had a 'color fruit party!'.
Hashem created such delicious colorful fruit. The children go to help place them into a rainbow while reviewed all the colors.

Delicious!

Taking care of our pet.

How to Be a Guest- K class

Parshat Vayeira: How to Be a Guest

Kindergarten learned from Avraham and Sarah how to welcome guests this week.
They took turns preparing our tent and welcoming their classmates.

We also received an invitation to come be guests in the preschool class, so we were able to fine tune our skills even more.

Torah Tots made delicious cookies to share with us!

"Which one should I choose?"

Exploring our Senses

We wore blindfolds and discovered how much of the world we could understand from our other senses!

Menucha laughs " It doesnt make sense!"
Max and Levi Yitzchak use their sense of touch to feel the beads.

Being a gracious host & guest

This weeks Torah portion of Vayera is about the very first Jewish couple, Avraham and Sara. Our big idea this week was to learn from them how they loved and welcomed guests into their tent and served them with respect and love.

Our dramatic play center turned into Avraham and Sara's tent. Their tent had four openings and a cloud on top representing Hashem presence was always there.

overheard:
Motty "Why did they have to have four doors? Why couldn't the guests come from one door?"
Dovi "Because if there were a lot of guests it would be too long to wait by one door" :)

Enjoying each other's company inside the tent.

Ari and Mina making food for guests.

Motty and Rozie role playing Avraham and Sara. We learned that Sara's Shabbos candles miraculously lasted all week! (Right before the next Friday night they would go out so she can do the Mitzvah again!)

Menachem working hard writing his name on his Candle project. Dovi creating a Shabbos candle holder for one of his sisters who do the mitzvah on Friday night!

Another special miracle that happened to Avraham and Sara was that the challah stayed fresh and soft all week!
We placed a challah on our shelf this week and felt it to see what would happened to this soft challah. This was a hands-on way for the children to appreciate Sara's special challah.

Guests are coming!

After all this talk about guests it was time to put our knowledge to practical use! Our class worked hard together to create an invitation for the Kindergarten to join us in OUR classroom tent for a treat!

The Kindergarten loved this idea too;)

Making cookies for our guests. Mendel checking to see if our eggs were kosher and didn't have any blood spots. Motty learning how to use two spoons to make portion sized cookies.

Our guests get first! It was so much fun for all of us to gather inside the tent eating cookies and talking about guests they sometimes have in their homes.

Evan and Moshe blowing little pom pom 'people' into the four door tent cups!
