A Surgeon comes to visit!

Doctor Unit

A Doctor's office in our classroom invited the children to role play their past experiences as well as new information we learned this week.  This was also a great way to discuss some of the fears and concerns the children have when visiting the Doctor.

We learned about our bones and how to keep them strong and healthy.

The children first felt a glove filled with water and then we added straws in each of the fingers and felt the difference.

X-ray Art

Pictures of real x-rays inspired the children to create their own x-ray art by adding q-tips as the bones on a black paper.

She used white chalk to create "Mommy's hands".

Using a real stethoscope to listen to our friend's heart as well as learning what a blood pressure cuff is. 

Menachem told us how a doctor also listens to your back.
What a great observation and it helped us understand how our heartbeat can be heard from our back as well! 

We learned that at the Doctor's office we find out how much we weigh and how tall we are!

A dad, a surgeon!

It was such a treat to have Hannah's dad, Dr Kryger come to visit us! Dr Kryger is a plastic surgeon.

He showed us how he helps people who have broken bones.

Hannah got a fiber glass cast and Elizabeth got a plaster cast on her leg. It was interesting to feel the difference.

Teeth care

This week we also talked about 'Healthy habits' when it comes to our teeth!

The children were invited to cut out different picture of food items and place it on the correct tooth.

Parshat Vaeira

Parshat Vaeira: Spreading the Light 

.

In this week's parsha  Hashem told Moshe to warn Paroh to listen to Hashem and let the Jewish people go. Paroh was very stubborn and mean to Moshe. Paroh didn't want to let the Jewish people g, because he didn't accept that Hashem runs the world.

At first Moshe tried to speak with Paroh in a nice way but when Moshe saw that Paroh wasn't listening he came to Paroh with gevurah (with strength) and the 10 makos (plagues) began. Parshat Vaeira contains the first 7 makos.

Morah Avigayil asked our kindergarteners "Why did Hashem bring the 10 makos, He could've killed Paroh and taken the Jews out of Egypt in a much faster or quicker way.?

Kindergarten learned that Hashem had 2 purposes: 

1) Hashem needed to punish Paroh. 2) Hashem was teaching Paroh that He is the one in charge and hoped that Paroh would do Teshuva.

Each week kindergarten is so excited to start coloring the parsha sheets 

and guess what will happen in that weeks parsha.

Light Up Your House, Light up the World

We delved deep into the exciting world of maps this week. 

Hard at work creating our own maps.

Did you know there is a special way to read a map?

 Kindergarten discovered that you need to use a map key.

We used special tape to create roads on the floor of our classroom and enjoyed using different materials to build houses and cities.

We also explored the connection we have to the world. 

When a person goes somewhere and does something good, they light up that place.

Preschoolers Catching Germs!

Starting off our week enjoying the rain!

 It was quite exciting to watch the weather change, so we decided to bring it into the class on our art table.

Rozie had extra paint on her fingers so she made raindrops on her picture.

 Germ Review

Last week we did a germ experiment by all our hands touching one piece of bread while the other bread was untouched. We noticed a big difference and Saige helped by describing the mold that was covering the germ touched bread. This was a great opportunity to learn how even when we cannot see germs it can cause a reaction.

 Mr. Sneezy boy, Catch his Germs!

A fun interactive way to learn about how we handle the sick germs that can spread when we cough or sneeze;  was to have 'sneezy boy ' visit our class.

Every time he sneezed we sprayed the bottle of water to show how germs can spread in the air. We took turns catching it in a tissue.

 We played a fun sticker game at circle time one morning. We took turns calling out body parts and the children were invited to place a sticker on the correct spot!

Playing a body twister game was a fun way to learn our body parts,  master  gross motor balancing skills in addition to correct color discrimination.

Welcome back 'Show and Tell"

 It was so great to see our friends back at school after winter break! Each child was invited to bring a picture of something they did over break and explain it to their friends. This was a great opportunity for the children to practice speaking with confidence, answering their friends questions, and of course being a good listener!

Germs 

This time a year is usually when we see sniffles and coughs. We will be focusing on  'Healthy Habits' and reminding the children how to stay away from bad germs. 

During circle time we demonstrated how germs spread. 

We sprinkled some 'germs' (crushed up chalk) on Saige's and Mendels hand. We sang a friend song and as they held hands they noticed how the little germs transferred to their friends hand! 

Germ growth experiment 

To see the affects of real germs we took two pieces of bread. One was placed in a bag with a glove on. The other one was passed around from person to person rubbing their hands all over it. We will be monitoring the two pieces of bread to watch the difference.

Germ Art 

Microscopic pictures of real germs invited the children to draw their own version of what a germ looks like.

Blow art was a fun way to create germ photos.

Saige noticing the beautiful blended colors that she was creating.

Its amazing to see the different levels of skills in our classroom and watch them challenge themselves and grow.
