Naaseh V’nishma – We’re All In!

Shavuot is almost here!

On Shavuot, Hashem gave us the Torah on Har Sinai. Before that, He offered it to all the nations. Each one asked, “What’s in it?” they said no when they heard the mitzvot. When Hashem asked Bnei Yisrael, they didn’t ask questions—they said “Naaseh v’nishma!” (We will do and we will listen). Hashem was so proud and chose them as His special nation to receive the Torah.

This week, we played a fun "Naaseh V’nishmagame! The children picked a mitzvah card from a box and had to quickly act it out while the rest of the class cheered them on, chanting "Naaseh v’nishma!" It was a joyful way to experience the excitement and trust of saying yes to Hashem—just like Bnei Yisrael did!

Mordy, Making Naaseh V’nishma crown.

Avraham, is using ink and a feather to write the Hebrew letters of the Torah, just like a Sofer Stam does when writing a real Sefer Torah!

On Shavuot, it’s a minhag (custom) to eat dairy foods. One reason is that when Bnei Yisrael received the Torah, they learned the laws of keeping kosher and didn’t have time to prepare meat properly, so they ate dairy instead. To celebrate, we made our own delicious mini cheesecakes and had a cheesecake sensory table. What fun it was to explore, mix, and create with creamy textures and sweet toppings!

We had so much fun decorating flower vases in honor of Shavuot—just like how Har Sinai was covered in beautiful flowers when Hashem gave us the Torah. It is a minhag to decorate our Yom Tov tables with flowers. We also explored a sensory flower table, filled with petals, leaves, and different textures. We even added seeds, and the children had a wonderful idea—they decided to spread the seeds outside to feed the birds. Later, we got to watch the birds come and enjoy the treat! 🌼

Some of our friends have been losing their baby teeth, and it’s been so exciting to celebrate this big milestone together! We especially enjoyed hearing Nechama’s story about how she lost her tooth—it made everyone smile!

MY Torah!

Shavous is almost here!

We want each Jewish Holiday to feel so meaningful for our friends. The Torah that we get each year from Hashem is there's! This week we focused on this concept in circle times and center play.

Zalman, decorating his Torah that will be filled with Mitzvahs that HE can do! What a gift.

What do we SEE in the Torah? Our friends knew right away "Alef Beis". They are written by a Sofer and special ink using a feather. We invited our friends to try to fill in the Alef beis letters using this technique.

Taking it to the next level, we learned what these holy letters in the Torah is telling us.
Levi, Yocheved Sara coming up and placing different Mitzvahs that are spoken in the Torah.

Har Sinai had beautiful flowers on it during the giving of the Torah. Using our math and fine motor skills to place flower inside Styrofoam.

On Shavous, its is customary to eat dairy foods. After the giving of the Torah, once the Jewish people learned about Kosher they needed time to Kosher to utensils so they didn't eat meat.

Ariella, making her own pretend cheesecake using sand, shaving cream and pom poms for toppings.

Of course we had to make REAL cheesecake.
Yummy!

Making crust by banging tea biscuits together.

We have been hard at work on our end of year project!
What a fun feeling getting our hands in the paint.

Look how high I can jump?

Good Shabbos and Happy Shavous!

Small mountain, big lesson!

This week, we learned the beautiful story of how Hashem chose the mountain for Matan Torah. All the mountains wanted to be chosen. Hashem didn’t choose the tallest or the most impressive—He chose Har Sinai, the smallest of them all. Why? Because he was humble.

"What does it mean to be humble?" Mendy answered, "Not boasting!" That’s right! But then we asked, “Does being humble mean I’m worse than anyone else?” The whole class answered together, “No!”

Yossi C. added, “Being humble means teasing less,” and we couldn’t agree more. What beautiful insights from our little learners!

To make Har Sinai even more special, Hashem covered it in colorful flowers.
Nechama L. added flowers to her play dough Har Sinai—just like Hashem did 💕

This week, our classroom transformed into a mountain-making workshop! Each child got to choose what kind of mountain to create—some made Har Sinai, while others crafted volcanoes or icy peaks. We built the bases using recycled materials like paper, foam, baskets, and egg cartons, showing how creativity and care for the environment can go hand in hand. Then came the layers of paper-mache, followed by painting and adding special details like flowers, snow, or lava.

As the school year winds down, it's easy for routines to slip—but the kids reminded us how we can still keep our classroom organized and neat!

We had a wonderful time at the library for a special book reading by Morah Leah!

Teamwork Tuesdays! The children had a blast playing the string cup game, a fun teamwork challenge where they used strings and a rubber band to stack cups without touching them. It was a great reminder that teamwork makes the dream work—when we work together, we’re so much better!
