A Colorful week!!

This weeks theme was Colors!

In addition to the color recognition skills we wanted the children to master,  we added the Hebrew words for 2 of the colors. (see next blog post)

Here's how we set up the room, to create an environment most conducive to reaching our goals.

 'Color Center'.

colored water with matching colored items in it for the children to explore.

Different pieces of colored pipe cleaners with a magnetic stick
to be able to maneuver different colors

I drew a rainbow and started the kids off with one sticker in the correct colored section.
It was fun to see the children practice their motor skills by peeling off the sticker as well as matching the correct color.

Ellah and Levi working together to find the right place for their stickers.

Some children had a preference of colors they wanted :)
Here Rochel was looking for the red ones!

When I was given this interesting cardboard section box I was excited to use
it in our color center. Thanks to our helper Sivan for painting it the kids had fun finding the right color
pom pom for each section!
(again working on motor skills as the box was stuck on the wall causing the poms to slip out if it wasn't put in properly)

Healey was working on creating a line of green pom poms !

Cooper did great and after a couple tries figured out
on his own he needed to use his fingers to push it in!

One morning we extended the color center to our arts and crafts table and did a color experiment! We added different colors to vinegar and put baking soda on their trays. The children used turkey basters and droppers to squeeze the vinegar on the baking soda. As the liquid touched the baking soda a mini explosion of different colors started appearing on their tray!

This activity was a great way to engage many of their senses!
They all noticed the vinegars smell and even though looked like water could tell that it definitely wasn't!:)
Using their eye sight to see the different colors and what happens when being mixed? and touch... well
Check out the next picture ;)

Healey immediately when started her experiment sweetly turned to me and said
"Can I touch?" of course I said "yes go for it!" and was excited to see her reaction to the feeling.
