Salad Spinner to teach the orbit of the Planets and LOTS more!

On Day #3 Hashem created the earth, rivers, trees, flowers and plants!

Sequencing & learning the parts of a flower:

The children used scissors to cut grass, and put together the parts of a flower. We discussed the function of the roots, stem and leaves to keep the flower healthy !

Nature Walk

What better way to learn about the creations of day #3, than going outdoors on a nature walk! Every child received a bag to collect any item that was created on Day #3.

Yossi:" Look,A stick shaped in a "Y", Just like my name!" Love when the children can connect their knowledge from inside the classroom to outside, and into the community!

A Purple flower. Lots of flowers all coming out of one stem!

When we were done collecting nature's treasures, we all sat down to share our findings! We also enjoyed an outdoor snack!

Day #4: Sun, Moon, Stars & Planets!

The moon and its different phases throughout the month! We went into  a dark room to see how the moon gets its light! The moon actually receives its light from the sun!

Where are all the planets compared to the sun? And how does it become dark at nightime and light in the day time? Does the sun stop shining?

We used a salad spinner as a fun way to teach the children the orbit of the planets throughout the day, week , month and year....

Spinning planets into orbit!

We placed a Yellow ball as the sun, in the center of the spinner, and while the children observed the spinner, spinning the planets around the sun, we explained that each planet actually turns as well! When the earth turns around, only the side of the earth that is facing the sun has DAYTIME! When its facing the other side it is NIGHT TIME (when we get moonlight!).

WHAT A WONDROUS WORLD HASHEM CREATED FOR US!

Moon Dough for morning centers!

Alongside this interesting textured putty, we offered stars and sparkles to help the children imagine the solar system, planets  and stars!

Water painting stars!

Sun gives Heat!

Using heat to create a sun shaped crayon! We love to up-cycle ! This was a fun activity to recycle all those broken and bent up crayons!

First we sorted out the crayons, to pick out all the colors that would represent the sun!
Orange, Yellow and Red!

After peeling the paper, and selecting the crayons, each child filled a cupcake holder with the crayons. We baked them and watched them turn into ...

SUN SHAPED CRAYONS!
